This year 1,187 MRC members will provide early literacy and reading research-based interventions to children from age three to 3rd grade in over 600 schools and preschools throughout the state. MRC is the largest state Americorps program in the country and there are MRC members serving in Moorhead, Detroit Lakes, Pelican Rapids, and many other local communities.
Stewart has worked with the MRC program as it has grown over the years and has provided training, materials development, research and intervention development, program evaluation, and consultation expertise as well as acting as a master coach for the Pre-K and K-3 aspects of the program. Stewart also has been involved in starting similar programs in North Dakota and Michigan.
The goal of MRC is to have every child in Minnesota become a successful reader by the end of 3rd grade.
